I believe the government should not sensor games for several reasons. People can tell the difference between reality and a video game. There is already a rating system in place that keeps kids from buying inappropriate games without a parent. There is a large video game industry that will suffer if this passes. Video games should not be censored.
Video games are on the television and real life is well in real life. Everyone knows cartoons are fake and so are video games. Kids can also tell the difference between a controller and a gun. Gun games have been out since the days of the SNES and Sega Genesis, So we can see that they had very little impact on kids shooting real people. It is also common knowledge that people die in war. No one can deny this making games more graphic only show more of the dangerous sides of war that will make kids fear it not want to take real guns and shoot people. To the people that think that video games have became worse in recent years look at mature games from previous consoles and they’re pretty much the same as modern ones except the new ones have better graphics. In fact that is one of the main complaints gamers have today hardly any gaming companies have try new and unique things like they were from 1999 until 2001.
When one looks at a video game on of the first things everyone sees is the rating, the include Ec for early childhood, E for everyone, T for teen, M for mature, and A for adults only. Much like movie theaters how to see an R movie the child must be accompanied by a parent and anyone under 17 is allowed into an Nc-17 movie, Kids can not buy a rated M game without a parent and are not allowed to be sold rated A games. No one is complaining about movies so are games really that different. This rating system is created by parents for parents which makes it even better, than a government made list. If the government does censor video games then mature adults would not be able to play them. It is also unconstitutional in that it would limit freedom of speech to censor video games. The rating system is already working great!
Many people in the US work for gaming companies why should we limit them and let foreign companies keep on doing the same thing, this would give us an unfair disadvantage. People will have to be cut because their projects will be canceled. In this poor economic time we should try and keep as many jobs as possible not use the government to destroy them. Our gaming industry also helps us to advance in simulators that can be used for training for pilots and race car drivers. War games help us to push the envelope in graphic and audio realism.
In essence video games are very important to many Americans and deserve the same rights as movies.
