Weekly article 3

I personally believe people should know what their government and all governments are doing the good and the bad. Julian Assange does not only try and make our government transparent but also governments around the world. If the former Soviets could have seen this while they were under Stalin the citizens good have found some way to assonate Stalin, millions lives could have been saved. I believe Russia and China will both know this information with or without wiki leaks. Just as I’m sure we have information on them. However I did not agree that the soldiers were acting like the war was a video game. To me it looked like they were trying to defend themselves. If people can see what is going on then they can know the true costs of war. I don’t believe a government will kill him because if they do this will give more fire to his cause. One thing I’m concerned about is that wiki leaks will become controlled by a nation and the country will use the great power as a weapon to turn a countries’ people against it. I think countries such as Japan would feel ashamed if they knew what happened in World War two with the Chinese. The mass killings by the Japanese to the Chinese should be learned more about in school. I feel this is one of the biggest world issues and one I have not learned much about, or discussed in school. It may be that we don’t focus enough on Eastern history in our textbooks. I would understand doing a little bit more Western than Easter because we live in a Western civilization. However we cannot only study one of 20 chapters on Easter civilizations. I understand teachers have limited time, but we only get to learn about social studies for three years. I mention this because we need to see more of what Eastern civilizations did right, such as China which I consider the greatest civilization in history. We should know the good the bad and the awful about them as well. I think we don’t focus on the East for two reasons one to make us seem better and two to not offend Eastern people. More transparency would give us a much more accurate look at history so we can see the good and bad about all nations around the world. For example may Malaysians actually invent a large portion of what the Chinese claim to have invented, China could get away with this by using its power. I don’t see any other way to make history true than to have a wiki leaks. This way the future will know who everyone really is. I can see why it is controversial I may have a new opinion it the future. I would like to look more into it. I can see how there are good points for both sides. After all though I’m sure someone else has witnessed the shootings we saw in class and would use this to recruit any way.

How to treat the prisoners

I believe the current way of interrogation by the United States is about as good and well balanced as a country can be. If we are too harsh people will hate us more than they already do. If we are not tough enough they will not give us information. I believe the people should be water boarded. It will not harm them and it will grab their attention.

Us declaration of War WW1

I believe the US has a strong and stern tone focusing on ideals. The German one feels like they are saying we were asking for it, and they will defeat us easily. Both letters sound a bit arrogant. I think the Germans said don't help England and do what we say. To me it sounded like Germany wanted to teach us a lesson.

weekly article 2

I believe the government should not sensor games for several reasons. People can tell the difference between reality and a video game. There is already a rating system in place that keeps kids from buying inappropriate games without a parent. There is a large video game industry that will suffer if this passes. Video games should not be censored.
Video games are on the television and real life is well in real life. Everyone knows cartoons are fake and so are video games. Kids can also tell the difference between a controller and a gun. Gun games have been out since the days of the SNES and Sega Genesis, So we can see that they had very little impact on kids shooting real people. It is also common knowledge that people die in war. No one can deny this making games more graphic only show more of the dangerous sides of war that will make kids fear it not want to take real guns and shoot people. To the people that think that video games have became worse in recent years look at mature games from previous consoles and they’re pretty much the same as modern ones except the new ones have better graphics. In fact that is one of the main complaints gamers have today hardly any gaming companies have try new and unique things like they were from 1999 until 2001.
When one looks at a video game on of the first things everyone sees is the rating, the include Ec for early childhood, E for everyone, T for teen, M for mature, and A for adults only. Much like movie theaters how to see an R movie the child must be accompanied by a parent and anyone under 17 is allowed into an Nc-17 movie, Kids can not buy a rated M game without a parent and are not allowed to be sold rated A games. No one is complaining about movies so are games really that different. This rating system is created by parents for parents which makes it even better, than a government made list. If the government does censor video games then mature adults would not be able to play them. It is also unconstitutional in that it would limit freedom of speech to censor video games. The rating system is already working great!
Many people in the US work for gaming companies why should we limit them and let foreign companies keep on doing the same thing, this would give us an unfair disadvantage. People will have to be cut because their projects will be canceled. In this poor economic time we should try and keep as many jobs as possible not use the government to destroy them. Our gaming industry also helps us to advance in simulators that can be used for training for pilots and race car drivers. War games help us to push the envelope in graphic and audio realism.
In essence video games are very important to many Americans and deserve the same rights as movies.

Dog fighting

Dog fighting is a dangerous and not very effective way of fighting. After playing Dog fight I noticed how hard it must have been to master flying and how the shooter only had a limited amount of time to shoot. It also was hard, like you said in class not to hit the wings which would make the plane go down. It must have been hard if there where multiple planes going against each other. The pilots were probably screaming at the gun man and really scared.

cause and effect of casualties in World War 1

There were two main factors causing the high casualties in World War 1, First is the advancement of technology, second is Trench warfare. Machine guns allowed more soldiers to be shot down more quickly. Chemical warfare caused soldiers to be disabled and later killed. Flame throwers killed many wounded near the end of a victory. Trenches made it easier to get gassed.

weekly article

I picked Avatar because we tried to colonize the navis, they are humanoids who live on another planet. I will explain the plot and how it deals with imperialism.
Avatar was a great example of a movie that dealt with imperialism. It is very similar to Pocahontas another movie about imperialism. We were the bigger more power full group of people and wanted to take over the navi for their unobatanium. They used avatars of a real humans such as Jack Sully whom becomes the main character to learn more about them. A native predator chases Jake he escapes but is separated from the group. He is then saved by a native humanoid. She brings him back to the Home tree where the natives live. The leader of the clan makes Jack’s name dreamwalker and orders the woman that saved him Neytiri to teach him how to be a warrior. Jake is promised he will be able to walk again if he finds intelligence about the native people. The home tree is on top of the largest deposit of unobatanium and we want to bull doze it so we can mine it. The general then orders the home tree to be destroyed because the natives will not evacuate. The natives to longer trust Jake so he attaches himself to a large flying animal that is seldom ridden on. They then agree to save Jack’s partner Grace. Jack then gets many warriors from other clans to help fight us. A huge battle takes place and the natives suffer many casualties, the wild life then helps in the war effort and they win all humans except for jake are expelled from the planet.
The Imperialism connection is when we tried to take them over as a colony. We showed economic and political imperialism. It is economically because we wanted to expose their resources. It is politically because we wanted their land to be ours. It failed like many attempts do. If we would have succeeded the resources would have boosted our economy. This is a reason why we have in the past imperialized other countries. Another reason to imperialize is to improve our military by giving us a strategic location. Examples are Hawaii Guam and Puerto Rico. These places were an example of when we succeeded in imperialism. Failures include Cuba Philippines Vietnam and many more. A strong country may take one of two approaches imperialism or isolationism. There are positives and negatives for both choices. Another example besides the U.S. of imperialism is Russia. A strong isolationist country is China. Imperialism can give a country more resources but also a bad international image, and failures can be costly economically and can have high human tolls.
In conclusion, Avatar is a great example of a movie that deals with imperialism and shows what can happen if it fails. The US and other countries have tried imperialism both with success and failure. Isolationism is another route a country can take. We were isolationist when we first became a country.

Many of my coworkers have malaria. That was not the wort though there were people dying everywhere. We were over worked and plagued by diseases. Few white men would do the job and I could understand why it was We had to work with dynamite that also is unstable and had several miss fires that cost many lives

Yellow journalism

Yellow journalism is blowing a story out of proportion. A great recent example is how the Orlando Sentinel wrote several front page stories of how some hair dresser's that were working without a license got arrested. It was not that big of a deal and the time is short but they acted like it is controversial. Yellow journalism is stretching the truth and making a story seem like bigger news than it actually is. It affects us because many people perceive it to be fact and as big of a deal as the newspapers make it look like it is.

In Marx's Communist manifesto the proletariat eventually becomes the only class. In Charlie and the chocolate factory Charlie represents the proletariat. The proletariat in the Communist manifesto becomes more concentrated and holds a larger segment of the population. In Charlie and the chocolate factory Other kids (classes) disappear from the factory (the world). Willy Wonka represents the former system where he is the bourgeoisie and the oompa loopa's are the proletariat. The oompa loompa's are used as tools for his labor. The tour is the transition through the rise of technology, a new era and the dominance of the proletariat. In the end Charlie owns the factory and the final era begins

effect of Reconstruction on slaves

Slaves gained some freedoms after they were freed.  They still worked on plantations and worked for white men.  They now had money to spend freely.  They were now responsible for feeding their families not slave owners.  They had to work very in both situations.  They did not enjoy very much leisure.  They were uneducated in both circumstances.
I chose this image because it shows what a battle scene may have looked like.  It also shows how real the death was.  It shows how they batted in hand to hand combat.  The aggression they had towards each other is also shown.  In the image many people are fighting like how there were many people that died in the war.  It makes you feel as though you are there.  It shows how motivated both sides were to fight.
